In class we watched the movie Food Inc. This was the first time I have ever seen the truth about what is in our food and how they are processed. I wasn't surprised to know that the intentions of the industry are money hungry and get away with cheap labor by providing us with harmful chemical altered food. It was disturbing to see some of the footage in the movie and I've learned a lot of food that I was ignorant of before. Below I am going to answer three questions from the worksheet that was provided.

1. Professor Larry Johnson states that if you look at the ingredients in a supermarket, 90% of the products contain corn or soybean. The reason why is because so many foods and products can be made from these ingredients. There is no nutritional value for corn but it is valuable because it can be used for so many things and I feel the industry uses it for things that it shouldn't be used for. It is very cheap to grow. It is very cheap to harvest. They make one hell of a profit for using it. They feed corn to cows to fatten them up. It works, but it isn't helping sell healthy fresh meat to the public. Since cows naturally cannot process corn just like humans cannot, Salmonella and E. Coli are forming in these cows. The industry is well aware of this and what is their suggestion? To wash the meat with ammonia to kill the disease. The movie stated if they put the cows on grass for 5 days, 80% of E. Coli would shed. Why won't the industry do this? Because it is TOO expensive.

9. I feel that eating healthy is a responsibility. We can blame the food industry all we want but obviously nothing is being done about it. The government knows what is happening. The movie is showing people what is happening. We know it's going to be out there and this is happening. Now that we are educated about it you can make healthier choices. It is our responsibly of what we put into our bodies. You can choose a McDonalds Big Mac or you can make your own salad that you bought from the grocery store. Consisted eating either way will impact and affect your body. You need to decide what is important to you and your health.

16. I truly feel that this depends on the person. I would love to say that yes if healthy food were more affordable than people would open their eyes and stop eating the twinkies and chips and buy carrots and strawberries instead. I know personally I would. As I'm getting older I realize that yes chips taste delicious but I am unhappy with how I feel and how I look after eating. I never feel bloated from eating too many carrots or apples. Some people just do not care and will eat whatever they want regardless if it is healthy or not. I do think there would be an increase of health because of the cost being dropped but it wouldn't stop the issues we are having today with obesity, diabetes and health issues and this is because people are on the go and they cannot always cook. McDonalds is a quick easy fix and there is no long lines at the grocery store and they don't want to prep or cook in the kitchen and clean up is easy. This is an ideal to some families because of time. It's sad but its true and it's going to be difficult
