After reading the article "An Introduction to Qualitative Research" I realize that this is something i've practiced and done before I just never really know it was called this. I learned the proper definitions and I was able to easily understand the list provided. The Qualitative questions answer why? how? and what way? Quantitative research answers how much? how many? how often? to what extent? I was introduced to these questions back in late elementary school. I am very familiar with this type of research. qualitative interviews are informal. It would be an interview that you know the person and feel comfortable with them and it's more like a normal conversation. Whereas qualitative interviews for very formal and professional. Examples would be for researching a new product or discovery or interviewing for a career.

In the article "Situating Narrative Inquiry," I learned that narrative inquiry there are four components to make a narrative.
1. a change in the relationship between the person conducting the research and the person participating as the subject.
2. a move from the use of number toward the use of words as data.
3. a change from a focus on the general and universal toward the local and specific
4. a widening in acceptance of alternative epistemologies or ways of knowing

I have used this research in the past for other classes and I think this can be used for our upcoming projects in the class such as our oral history.

In class we watched the movie Food Inc. This was the first time I have ever seen the truth about what is in our food and how they are processed. I wasn't surprised to know that the intentions of the industry are money hungry and get away with cheap labor by providing us with harmful chemical altered food. It was disturbing to see some of the footage in the movie and I've learned a lot of food that I was ignorant of before. Below I am going to answer three questions from the worksheet that was provided.

1. Professor Larry Johnson states that if you look at the ingredients in a supermarket, 90% of the products contain corn or soybean. The reason why is because so many foods and products can be made from these ingredients. There is no nutritional value for corn but it is valuable because it can be used for so many things and I feel the industry uses it for things that it shouldn't be used for. It is very cheap to grow. It is very cheap to harvest. They make one hell of a profit for using it. They feed corn to cows to fatten them up. It works, but it isn't helping sell healthy fresh meat to the public. Since cows naturally cannot process corn just like humans cannot, Salmonella and E. Coli are forming in these cows. The industry is well aware of this and what is their suggestion? To wash the meat with ammonia to kill the disease. The movie stated if they put the cows on grass for 5 days, 80% of E. Coli would shed. Why won't the industry do this? Because it is TOO expensive.

9. I feel that eating healthy is a responsibility. We can blame the food industry all we want but obviously nothing is being done about it. The government knows what is happening. The movie is showing people what is happening. We know it's going to be out there and this is happening. Now that we are educated about it you can make healthier choices. It is our responsibly of what we put into our bodies. You can choose a McDonalds Big Mac or you can make your own salad that you bought from the grocery store. Consisted eating either way will impact and affect your body. You need to decide what is important to you and your health.

16. I truly feel that this depends on the person. I would love to say that yes if healthy food were more affordable than people would open their eyes and stop eating the twinkies and chips and buy carrots and strawberries instead. I know personally I would. As I'm getting older I realize that yes chips taste delicious but I am unhappy with how I feel and how I look after eating. I never feel bloated from eating too many carrots or apples. Some people just do not care and will eat whatever they want regardless if it is healthy or not. I do think there would be an increase of health because of the cost being dropped but it wouldn't stop the issues we are having today with obesity, diabetes and health issues and this is because people are on the go and they cannot always cook. McDonalds is a quick easy fix and there is no long lines at the grocery store and they don't want to prep or cook in the kitchen and clean up is easy. This is an ideal to some families because of time. It's sad but its true and it's going to be difficult

I love the time era that I am growing up in. I've seen large big box TVs transform into slim flat TVs. I've witnessed huge grey computers with large monitors to small screens turn into petite thin laptops. Everything around me is evolving. I love that I am growing with this technology and I am learning it as everyone else is learning it. I would be able to write this blog right now if there were no internet. I'd be writing it in a composition notebook and only my professor would be reading it. Technology changes the way I think and the way most people think. My brain is growing in a way that a girl my age 30 years ago never use to think. It is all because of technology. I think it can only get better, more exciting and I have the opportunity to experience that and incorporate the technology that I can use in my classroom.
This is a wonderful thing to experience because I will have no issues adapting or keeping up in today's society.

In this blog post, I will talk about the feedback I received for my twitterive.

I was very excited to share my doggy twitterive with my classmates. I had this in my head and I was happy to put it all on the website. I did state that I wanted it from the dog's view but somewhere along that process, it turned into I was telling the story. That was pointed out to me and I didn't even realize it until I presented it.
As suggested, I am going to write this completely from Chasey's point of view and maybe I will add a few highlights of my own words as well and write a complete story. I will go in depth with Chasey's thoughts and actions. I will add a lot more narrative.
I will also personalize it with pictures of me and Chasey together. That was a great suggestion!
Thank you for all of your feedback, I can't wait to start Chasey's story.

In The Omnivore’s Dilemna by Michael Pollen, his article talks about the food chains and how everything is connected. He discusses healthy choices such as organic and fast food options. He compares real food with fake fast food.

I have never seen food inc, but I know that fast food is extremely processed and 100% not real. I’m not sure if I would stop eating fast food all together but I would take it into consideration and make healthier choices. I eat fast food once in a while now, and I have actually lost a lot of weight by not eating it as much as I use to. I also stopped drinking soda. I only have it once in a while as well. This has made a huge impact on my body as well. I love fresh fruits and veggies but sometimes they are pricy and some people do not understand how to properly prepare it, cook it and store it. Many people today are always on the go so fast food is the best option.

The next reading was The Pleasures of Eating by Wendall Berry. This is another article about fast food and how gross it is and the power of false advertisement. People see juicy burgers on a huge billboard, where do you think people are headed next? No cooking, fast and on the go. That is why there is obesity today. Not to mention the dollar menu helps.

I cannot wait to see food inc to give me that push to take fast food completely out of my diet!

Last week during class a few of my peers presented their feedback. I really enjoyed Krista's twitterive on dating. Her stories, her snapshots of the emails and pictures were hilarious. I didn't realize in the online dating world that some people are so forward! I would really like to see a date preparation. For example,

Friday night 7 pm.
Outfit: Red dress.
How we're meeting: Meeting at the restaurant. 2 separate cars.
Restaurant: Olive Garden
Dinner of Choice: Salad
First Impression: Weirdo - He's wearing suspenders and thick black glasses. DOES NOT look like photo!
Topic of Discussion: He keeps talking about his cat.
Plan of Escape: Bathroom window.

I think the scenarios with as much detail as possible and photos to provide would be entertaining.
Very intrigued to see what Krista comes up with.

I really thought Erin's twitterive was moving. This was a hard topic for her to discuss but what I love is that she was not afraid to express to her peers how this was making her feel. That heartbreak is very real and sometimes can change who we are. I love what she has going on with the photos, the letter and the very nice choice in white space. My suggestion to you is to incorporate more in depth details about how your relationship started, how it developed, why this person became so special to you and how you wrapped your world around him. Like I said in class, 7 years in a long time. Let's a see a timeline

year 1 - the honey moon stage. we did this and this.. etc..
year 2 - our first time going on vacation ... (whatever happened)
-
-
-
year 7 - the year my world started to collapse

Add more pics! We want to see everything you have!
then add your stuff with the letter and the poem and how you are feeling. We see a lot of emotions but we don't see yet why it's affecting you so badly. Can't wait to see how you put your 7 years into words and pictures.
